IRISSCON 2015 Presentation: “Bad Ads”

If you’re going to be in Ireland on November 19, please consider paying a visit to the fantastic IRISSCON Security Conference, held in Dublin.

I’ll be exploring the wonderful(!) world of advertising in a presentation called “Bad Ads”, with a particular focus on the below topics in my talk:

  • Malvertising, and what you can do to protect yourself
  • The history of rogue advertising, and the gradual shift away from Adware applications to paid ads
  • The many different ways you can be served an ad, the various types of ad in use and the many unexpected places you might see one
  • The slowly escalating war between ad networks and ad blockers, and how individuals and businesses are being caught in the crossfire

Malvertising and rogue adverts in general continue to be a major problem, and they show no sign of letting up. The information in this talk will hopefully help keep you safe whether you’re in an office or sitting at home.

It’s a problem that affects everybody, and it only takes one single bad ad to give your desktop and network a costly headache.

I’ve done a couple of IRISSCON events in the past, and they’ve always been extremely informative with a lot of great presentations and events going on throughout the day. You can register now, to the tune of 25 Euros. Bargain!
